Hey, should we seriously investigate into building some kind of website for ourselves? Would everyone be willing to help out (where they could, that is)?

What kind of website?
I'd be willing to help, but I'm not sure what I'd be able to actually do.

As to what would be on it, well I suppose we need to discuss that. It would of course be a forum for our shenanigans but as for an overarching theme and possible goals I don't know at this point. I'd like to have a plan before any coding is done. So, any ideas? Sample list: Gaming News Anime News Community Interviews I don't know if we should be so general though or if it should be a specialized kind of thing (like only covering rpgs, etc.). I figure we should all talk about what we'd like to be on it and what not.

A website? For US??? If you ask me, that's a stupid great idea! ...but, we would have to have a real theme for the site. I mean, my feel for drawing has dropped down REALLY low from the shit going on and the endless heat here, and I don't know if Raydog will be willing to draw stuff, but I guess we'll have a semi-decent chance of arting up a banner and such, and maybe a comic or something... ...but in the end, we need to like, I don't know... TALK ABOUT IT. It's kinda hard to talk about the website/bounce ideas/play our friggin DnD session when you're way the hell over there with no ride here. Just saying "hey, we should make a website" is almost equivalent to "hey, let's form a super sentai force and fight evil". With no ideas, drive, and clue of what to do, well, there isn't a real serious outcome of the website =\

Yeah, well, I'm not an idea guy. I just make with the clickety clack and produce content. It would be nice to have real art though and not my typicalness. So, I figure the site shouldn't be based around a webcomic (although that could be a possibility later). Also once we decide whatever it's going to be about, we should probably draft a layout before coding too. I'm figuring it might be something like kotaku except with more personality, maybe personal rants, and actual features (like a webcomic, podcasts/radio show, ). Less of news on just gaming but more like news on whatever interests us. I figure with our fucked up personalities we would probably entertain a certain cadre of folks who don't have much of a voice (unless that voice is 4-chan, which is more or less anonymous ), for, obvious reasons. Anyway I can't think of a good example of what this site would be like right now. Kotaku was the first thing that springed to mind but maybe it'd be more like Penny Arcade minus everyone only going for the comic. Anyway I hope to be over sometime this week. I mean I could easily make it over there but I wanted to bring my D&D stuff...which is going to be a bitch to carry, even with it all fitting in a bag. One in the hopes that we *might* be able to continue and even if not then I was hoping to do some game developing (I need to start work on a second adventure in a campaign series I'm writing but I don't know what to do exactly so I was wondering if anyone wanted to help with it. I figure at least Shawn would be interested).

Kotaku? What is that?
Hmmmm.... Well, the site idea sounds neat, but doesn't that cost money, and we kinda don't have enough for much stuff now..... As for developing the game stuff, it'd be cool, but I'd only be good for coming up with small things.... Nothing too big D= I'm not that experienced in gaming still...

It costs nothing really. I mean, I can have it all developed for free, and can host off my own computer. The domain name costs but is cheap. I don't imagine starting with any high bandwidth traffic (not going to host our own downloads except for our own content...which would probably just be pictures....). I can get a free domain and redirect but if we did get any good bandwidth it would get shutdown once too many people visited and such.

Not really, It'll be used as the server for the site. When traffic picks up, my connection for personal stuff will be slowed, pretty much. That's if we don't start with some free FTP service (which most are crap, pure crap filled to the brim with advertising and low bandwidth limits, I'm looking at you geocities and angelfire).

Free FTP? *tilts head* ......*shrugs* Well, I wouldn't worry on hosting a site unless there is a chance we can get another computer to have that bog down, so, if it crashes or something, then you're not out a computer. OH!!!! One thing we could do is on some holidays (like Halloween or Speak like a Pirate day), we can have themes and such! Oh, and the ever popular, random site directing day!
But still..... We don't even have the idea of the site on paper (or a fancy html format to open in EI to look at), and who all will be in/apart/active in said website? I mean, just this message board is barely active by you, me and Shawn, and a lot of the time we have moments where we don't visit the place.... D=

True, but yeah, before anything is built in html/xhtml/perl/java/etc. I want to get the basics and a format plan on paper. I don't really use my compy for shit right now. I will if I ever get an S-Vid cable so I can hook it up (I don't really have a good place to put it, but hooking it up to the telly will sorta solve that problem). We need to get the basics down Which, at this point, aside from featuring us, we don't really know what that is yet XD

*shakes head* I ment, you could just write the html up and save it in a word pad or whatever and can just plug that into an HTML reader (I have a wiget for one, but I'm sure there is some site that has an HTML previewer thingy). But, yeah, you need it on normal paper too man =P
Well, what do we have to offer? There's always audio feeds we could put up. Randomnous (thanks to me D= ), scripted, or even one of our rare actual debates... I guess we could have a video thingy once in a while, pending my camera does the job. As for what all to put into it, I have no idea. Again, it would be easier to have a live meeting for this stuff X/

What I meant by needing it on paper first is I want to agree on a format and look and draw it down for reference, Also where to put all our links and stuff so it doesn't get all muddled. I imagine a simple top/side bar + main body context should work well enough for our needs. I like sidebars better personally but if ever a strip or other serial is introduced it may better constitute a top bar so there's a wider body table. Also, topbars seem to be all the rage these days and are far more popular than ye old fashioned sidebuttons.

Oh, I guess I kinda see what you mean. It would prolly still be better if done in HTML though (as we would need to preview it in Firefox, Opera, EI and such to see what it would look like and such).
*laughs* Wish I was better coordinated in Flash, I could do a mock website thing XD
Hmmm... side bars and top bars are neat, but I like side bars a lot more. Top bars don't hold as much, and if they're drop-down menus, well, they clutter the field D=.

The reason I want something on paper is so I can code it with a visual guide (also most web design editors nowadays are worked visibly with code altering optional...). I suppose I can make a mockup of a simple setup...hmm..it would be easier to refer to another site actually. I've got nothing at the moment though.

And so there lies the necessity to brainstorm. I would try to list some ideas but I must admit that I am becoming quite tired and my brain doesn't want to muster anything...
