Perhaps it's not the best paid part of the publishing world, but I was thinking that maybe we should get into the tabletop game development business. I was thinking the best way would be to write and design some d20 adventures of our own. Also it's the only business I can think of where we can actually start it with next to no funds. There are always cheap publishing solutions, and I can probably handle those costs with my current job. Distribution could be difficult though. Anyway, what do you guys think? Interested?
Maybe the Innovator should study the DMG's and running section of the PF RPG lol

Sounds like a lot of work.....
Though the thought had definitely crossed my mind that I want to create an adventure and run it sometime. But, you know.... no confidence or initiative. =p
Wut does I study lol?

You should read through the dungeon masters guides sometime...and the running an adventure portion of the Pathfinder RPG docs...
It would be a bit of work, but it's not terribly difficult. The hardest part is deciding on a story to work around. But I guess that's not too bad if you don't mind being flexible with the concepts you originally come up with if they aren't working out so well.
Most costs would come from distribution, publishing. and artwork. I Imagine we have enough contacts to do a good chunk of art ourselves however if we want a really professional looking product (although there are plenty of successful companies that publish basic looking crap...) we should probably outsource for more artwork...
Anyway it's just a thought. I might try to start working on something anyway, just wondering who's in? In fact I might start work tonight....nah probly not...

I've already read through a good chunk of the DMG.
Hm... interesting. Not sure what I could possibly contribute to this, but who knows.

Well, I would expect from you encounter crunch. How fair things are and such, considering tactical layouts, types of enemies, etc.
From Adam I would expect a lot of creativity and art help.
Ray Dog....hmm, I suppose general editing and stuff. In any case as far as stories go it'd be nice to have everyone have a hand in shaping it and such.
Maybe I'll get started on a first project this weekend. If it seems like a lot of work then I'll handle lead design and come to you guys when I need input?
I'd like to do some conceptual and decide a few things first off this weekend.
For one, what kind of game to start with...develop for 3.5, PF or something else (I'll speak with Paizo about developing 3rd party for their system, incomplete though it may be right now...)
Part of a series? One shot, maybe build off it in the future? Whatever, and some story concepts to work with...

Me? The art help? I donnoe.... When it comes to complexed things, backgrounding, detail, and things that aren't really anthro critters, I'm not really a good artist. *points at my samely crap and that cactus for an example* HOWEVER, if by chance there could be some funding avaliable, I might be able to try and find artists to comish and get pics from them. One such artist which sticks in my mind is Ollie as he's working on his own comic and has done awesome as fuck pictures, some of which I feel would be a great idea to have incase we do comish from someone else. Here's a couple pics of his that rock and shows what I mean:
Freakin awesome, right? I might not be able to draw/color things too well, but I do know my way around a little bit when it comes to finding artists. The only other awesome artist I could think of other then Ollie is Pinkuh, but she's more of the consol gamer then board gamer (also Jeremy, you should ask Awesome Kristin if she's heard of a Halo gamer on the PMS Mary Jane guild that goes by the name Pinkuh, I'm curious to know if her name had spread over the X-box).
I could *try* to do the artwork and creative stuffs if needed, but in the end, I am not confidant in my own power to do too much =/

Actually, I believe Kristin does know Pinkuh. Also Kristin can do some fantasy art herself. In any case any artist of decent skill will be a good help. I'm interested in Ollie style though as I wasn't looking for something super traditional. Some work from him might fit the bill. If we can actually take off decently it would be nice to figure out a better payment method than simply commissioning art every time we need something. I think this should work for the first couple adventures though. We may have to use very simple graphics but if some money rolls in we can try for higher quality stuff. Anyway we'll just have to wait and see.
I'm thinking I might have the first generic thing done by the time I'm back. I'm not sure though. Too many different Ideas keep running through my head. I'll be back Mon afternoon or Tue. most likely.

Oh? She has heard of her? And do you know Pinkuh? She's a really great artist and has done quite a few pricey comissions, ranging from car design to general graphic stuff. I've watched her start off at one point and become a huge skilled artist and seen her works with the PMS guild (as she herself is a Halo nut). I was just curious though if Kristin had heard of her though.
Yeah, sorry Ollie's stuff is so hyper skilled in the traditional way. But he was one of the best DnD artists I had come across so far in my looking around. The only other person I know might be a good artist and works a bit more digitally is Duo Radon, but I hadn't spoken with her for MONTHS and even though I like her work, she does tend to be a high charger X/ ...I guess that's what happens when you're a great artist but have to live off of comish to pay the bills =/
I am sure me and Ray Dog could come up with *some* of the simple stuff, but to break down on some of the heavily detailed character shots or maps, it's safe to say someone outside might be better X/ I'll try and work on my maps and hope I can get good enough to where I could give you good ones and save money...
You're going to be gone this whole weekend? That sucks D= No lake... I know, you don't do that swimming thing, and even then, it was storming about and might get the trip canceled, but you're cool and it's nice to hang out with ya man... Hope the family thing is good for ya. Sorry for giving you a hard time too =/ It's been a long time since you've had any visit you, I guess I was a dick for pushing that against you X/

What? I don't like being around family. And I was complimenting Ollies style for not being traditional. The content is but the art style isn't. It's much softer, not quite anime but very cartoonlike. By Traditional fantasy art, I mean like.... Or any power metal album cover for that matter. Then again, Ollie's other stuff might be like that maybe, I haven't got a chance to properly check him out.

Nope. Ollie's work is like a serious kind of anime/cartoon. It's like, he has the flow and softness of a cartoon, but the figure and linework is serious and more realistic then it should be. Yeah, his stuff isn't too dramatic and such, but still.... The mapwork and character design was really well. I know a few artists with the darker or epic styles that you posted, but I'd have to browse my collection and see if there is some other artist(s) to think about as well. *nods* I'll do that sometime later though. I'll eventually put together a small catalog to show you incase you do want a few things from outside and such.

It may depend on the game, but I think if I can afford it it may be beneficial to try and rely on Ollie for some of the bigger stuff. I've got a lot of browsing to do, and that's if he's interested. But it looks like it could work well for many different things.
If nothing else I'm really interested in mapwork, that's one of the most painful fucking things to worry about, so maybe I can get that out of him at the least.

I could try and get ahold of Ollie for ya. Just, it'd have to be around when we absalutly need the stuff. I can't remember if he's taking comish. or not lately. I just dont' want to contact artists way too early though... I know it's not good to wait too late to do get ahold of them, but it's worse to get ahold of them, start to set things up, then wind up having something come up. Oh, and just a fair warning, there might be a chance we'd have to get a Paypal account set up or something. Most artists go through ONLY Paypal, dispite how crappy it can be X/
Yeah, maps are the hardest thing ever, since a character can always have a look tweeked or changed, while the setting is the most important element in an adventure X/

I have an account that can be used already. I'm just hoping we take off regularly so we don't have to do commissions and we'll have art staff onboard. Sadly, the suite doesn't contain InDesign, I'll have to look at another option. Actually, the boss should have a copy for me this coming week.

Ok, although I don't really feel like working on it...I do kinda want to get this cracking. I wonder if we could sell adventures as freelance writers to other third parties until we are back on our feet.... >.<
Anyone got any ideas for a way to make sharing ideas and getting stuff done easier? Aside from setting meetings or something that obvious...

I have no idea.
I haven't really contributed anything to this so far. I want to be more active. But I'm not sure how this works. I want to help get this thing rolling. Just not sure how.

Yeah I don't know what the best way would be to develop in a group >.< That's why I'm looking for options here
I know the development process but I've never really done it in a group before.

Holy crap, glad I reread this before archiving. Now it ain't going in there.
Ollie is just the kind of artist we need right now(sadly I forgot about his existence, and his style is matches my preliminary visions of a final product, though I really don't care about the style too much), if he's still doing work. Should I get a hold of him or Adam if you want to. I mean hell, I need SOMEONE who can do maps like that, and if he'd like to work on other things or just see it published hell yes.
I haven't seen Pinkuh's stuff yet, I know of her through Kristen but haven't seen her stuff. I've never actually met/talked/played with most of the PMS clan.
Edit: I easily found Pinkuhs deviantart and website (being a somewhat unique name it was her DA URL) and shes definitely got....a lot of different styles, and is good at emulating styles as well. I may contact her about the project, unless Adam you have some connection, then maybe you (or possibly Kristen) should make the introduction?

Well, I'll try and get ahold of Ollie if I can. Don't know if he does comish and at a cheap price... I'll see what his price range would be (mostlikely he'll charge on detailing specifics then just over all D= ).
As for Pinkuh, well, *laughs*, I only mentioned her as I've known of her art for years and knew she had done work for members of the PMS Mary Janes (and I do want to say she's apart of the group of gaming gals). And yeah, she does have a lot of different styles =P Her anthro work is pretty neat, I do like her manga/anime stuff too. Can't say I'm a fan of the DBZ and WoW porn, but yeah, she does have pretty good range.
Though, Ollie is the only person I've seen that will do mapwork really... I know Kris made a mape once, you can always ask him =P
As for contacting, yeah, I could try and get ahold of Ollie, Pinkuh, or anyone else if needed. I can't promise I'll hear back from Pinkuh... She seems rather busy a lot of the time as she rarely posts stuff up online and has to do admin work for FA. But contacting an artist for an exchange of work will be easy for me (unlike when I lost touch with Duo Radon and how I feel spooked sending any kind of message to Spunky). But the more the skill and better the name, the higher the price usually is.... Some people are nice enough to do full color and such around $20-30, but others can jump up into $60 (by charging by step; sketch, link, color, detail, sometimes background, theme (if fetishy or something they never drew before)). Personally, I'd still hold of on comishing artists untill there is a definate know of needing pics and having money to buy them...
